June 6-8, 2025 - in St. Petersburg Florida

For 25 years NWSA has been hosting a full day of on land and on-the-water hands-on workshops for women sailors of all levels. All workshops are led by highly competent and enthusiastic women sail instructors and captains.

A sneak peak: there will be workshops in sewing canvas and sail repair, how to read a chart, how to go up a mast safely and how to avoid mishaps and mayhem just to name a few.

And then, of course, you’ll have a chance to get out on the water! Whether you are an absolute beginner or you are working on your race start strategy, the coaches are highly qualified and eager to share sailing with you!

Started by Commodore Mendez and his wife Pauline in 1996 to provide opportunities for women sailors on Long Island Sound, it's a fun and spirited event and is a qualifier for the YRALIS's Andrea Watson Award.

NOTICE OF RACE

1. RULES

1.1 The regatta will be governed by The Racing Rules of Sailing, the Ideal 18 Class Rules and the Sailing Instructions.

2. ELIGIBILITY

2.1 The regatta is open to boats of the Ideal 18 class owned by or chartered to a recognized yacht club. This is a non-spinnaker regatta. ECYC and EYC will have boats available for charter.

2.2 Both Skipper and Crew must be women.

2.3 Eligible skippers may enter by completing the entry form and emailing it to racechair@essexcorinthian.org by April 29th 2024. Entry forms are available at ECYC or online at www.essexcorinthian.org

2.4 Skippers will be required to draw for boat assignments at the skippers’ meeting.

3. FEES

3.1 There is a $50 entry fee for this regatta, per boat, payable by check or cash at the Skippers meeting.

4. BOAT CHARTERS

4.1

Boats owned by ECYC and EYC are available for no cost charter. The skipper at fault in a collision is responsible for Paying the $250 deductible if a boat is damaged. The skipper will be required to sign a liability form at the

Skipper’s meeting.

5. SCHEDULE

5.1 The skippers’ meeting will be held at 1200 on Sunday May 19th, 2024.

5.2 The First Warning Signal will be at 1300.

5.3 Up to Six races are scheduled.

5.4 No race will be started after 1600.

The 2023 Lorna!
Saturday fleet regatta Ideal 18s w spin part of Watson Trophy. Sunday morning distance race Ideal 18s. Contact: Karen Lau, Indian Harbor YC, kllau6@gmail.com. A minimum of 10 boats must be registered by September 16 for each day for the day’s event to be held.

From Karen Lau: “Ladies, let's race!" So get ready to wrap up the year with the Lorna Whittelsey Weekend at Indian Harbor Yacht Club on September 23-24.

Saturday (23th) is a spinnaker Ideal 18 regatta (2 crew) with family-style dinner following.
Sunday (24th) is a long distance race (like a PHRF race) that has historically been around the Captain Harbor Islands, followed by a buffet brunch. This race can be sailed with or without a spinnaker and 2-3 crew.

You can register to race both days or just one. But everyone is invited and can register to join the dinner and/or brunch.

2023 Stonington Yacht Club SAIL & SLUMBER

The popular Stonington Yacht Club ‘Sleepover’ version of the WOW Supper Series is back after a long COVID hiatus!

This is an overnight (optional) event where Stonington members host other club participants in their homes overnight, with a group breakfast the next morning. Come early to tool around & explore adorable Stonington, then meet at the club for a sail, followed by dinner. It’s a blast!

* SUN, SEPT 10 - Larchmont Yacht Club, Mendez Regatta / Queen's Cup Combo Women's Regatta

Sailors! Don’t miss the great tradition of The Ladies Invitational for the Commodore Mendez Trophy, Sunday, September 10! (This year, the Mendez is combined with the YRA Queen’s Cup race.)

Started by Commodore Mendez and his wife Pauline in 1996 to provide opportunities for women sailors on Long Island Sound, it's a fun and spirited event and is also a qualifier for the YRALIS's Andrea Watson Award.

Registration fee $100 + loaner boat fee, if needed, $100.

  • The Mendez is a non-spinnaker, ladies-only event on Ideal 18s!

  • Awards ceremony and wine / cheese reception with tunes following racing!

  • The Notice of Race is posted!

  • Loaner boats are available on a first come first serve basis for a $100 fee.

  3. 11:15 First Warning signal

Annual Gillespie Regatta. Women’s only in Ideal 18s with spinnakers. Part of the Andrea Watson Trophy 4 regatta series.

You must be a member of a qualifying yacht club to participate, and an experienced Ideal 18 sailor. Your registration must be approved by the Woman’s Sailing Chair.

  • 0900: Check in and refreshments

2023 - Hudson River Community Sailing - WOW Statue of Liberty Social Sail

NEW EVENT! Hudson River Community Sailing (our new sister club!) will host WOW Clubs on Sunday, August 13th, 2023 in New York City for a social sail, (starting at 1PM) followed by Happy Hour in Chelsea, starting at 6PM.

The number of available spots for sailors will be set two weeks prior to the event, on July 30, so that Reps can send out invitations to their women sailors. Happy Hour - 6-8PM - is open to all!

WOW Club Reps should contact Hudson River Community Sailing Rep Elif Levent with questions. She is on the Rep Google spreadsheet.

2023 Housatonic Boat Club - WOW East-West Supper Series

WOW East-West (post finale) Supper Series - Housatonic Boat Club hosts their second Supper Series, open to both East and West Clubs! There will be a casual sail for all, followed by supper. Bring PFDs and a beverage to share.

There are no headcount limits!
